The WEB D Application
This is an eCommerce solution designed to serve the needs of a company that is willing to sell products over the Internet.
Overview
The WEB D application is an E-commerce solution developed by Arobs Transilvania Software to serve the needs of companies willing to do business over the Internet.
The application is structured in two parts: the public site and an administration platform. The public site is the actual Internet web site of the company that allows customers to see information about the products grouped in catalogs and to place orders either via online credit card transactions or via email orders.
The administration platform enable users to view and manage the information about products, customers, online transactions and others.
Features
- Administrative functions: create/update/display products, create/update/display wholesale customers, display information about online transactions, online billing of transactions, defining special Web promotions, customizing the page layout
- Catalog presentation. The company’s products are presented on the web site into distinct catalogs and each product has a picture and contains information about the price, technical elements and a description.
- Shopping cart integration. The customer can browse the catalogs and add products in the shopping cart. The shopping cart page displays the items currently present in the shopping cart with information about price, description and quantity ordered. It also allows removing products from the shopping cart and modifying quantities.
- Online payment capability. The shopping cart products can be purchased online through a checkout form that requests information about shipping, billing, credit card number and expiration date. The credit card processing is made using the VeriSign PayFlow Pro product.
- Wholesale capability. The web site allows users to register as wholesale customers. The wholesale customer benefits of lower prices, no limit in the quantities ordered and several other advantages.
- Free Shipping and Internet Specials capability. Some of the products can have no shipping charges if this is specified on the administration site for those products.
- Special Web promotions.
- Automatic generation of CD catalogs. This is a special feature of the administrative platform that allows the administrator to automatically create static HTML files for all the web site catalogs, based on the catalogs and products currently defined in the database. The catalog files can then be copied on CDs and presented to interested customers.
- SSL protection (optional feature). The product is designed to support the SSL protection of the web pages; Arobs Transilvania Software has the necessary expertise to configure a SSL digital certificate on the HTTP server in order to protect it from fraudulent access.

Future Enhancements
The main future enhancement (currently in the development phase) will be the development of a version of the WEB D product with Java Server Pages and Java Beans running on an IBM Websphere Application Server. This solution will be developed both for AS/400 and Windows NT/2000/XP platforms.
Another future enhancement will be the release of the Windows version, developed using the IBM Net.Data as the development environment. Net.Data is almost fully portable so the programming effort for doing a Windows version starting from the AS/400 version will be relatively low.
Other future enhancements will be driven by customer demands.
