Technology challenges of this travel industry software project

By its nature, the project attracted a series of challenges. One of these is to work on many layers and components as front-end, back-end, databases and infrastructure. Having to work with a wide range of new technologies such as Typescript, ReactJs, Kafka, and more, we have proven that our team was eager to learn and to perfect these concepts.

This project and its challenges expanded our experience tool-belt a great deal.

We are doing our best to put in place all the processes, as a good development team should have. AROBS team respected all the agile/scrum ceremonies and applied the best practices in coding, by continuously deploying and testing the new features and changes. Tools like Jenkins and Sonarqube were configured in order to ensure that all processes are in place and automated. The development of travel solutions and hospitality solutions require a great deal of knowledge and skills.

The results

After AROBS collaboration, the platform is more powerful, it supports and works better with larger amounts of data used for travel solutions.  The new version will support any number of custom hotel facts, it will be more reliable, and the customers will find the UI more dynamic and much easier to use.

The AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) standard is a worldwide development partnership that aims to establish an open and standardized software architecture of Electronic Control Units (ECUs).  It opens opportunities for innovative automotive electronic and software systems that improve performance, safety, and environmental compatibility. 

AUTOSAR Benefits

The greatest benefits of using the AUTOSAR standard are standardization, re-usability of the software components and scalability

Through these the stakeholders save important time and money. Furthermore, it brings higher performance.

The newness it brings is in its layered architecture. The impact of any change in the processes is minimal. Classically, any change in the process required changes in all interconnected areas. With the layered architecture of AUTOSAR any change impacts only the layer is directly connected with. Thus, other layers are intact.

Supposedly there is a need to add a new software component. Using the standard, the focus will only be on implementing the inside algorithm, without having to adapt to the OEM environment.

Moreover, the software is completely independent of the hardware. Consequently, the software components don’t need to be redeveloped in accordance the underlying hardware component. Hence, these can be used again.

Automotive gateways are ECUs that enable secure and reliable communication among the vehicle’s electronic systems. It serves a critical role in vehicle security, in addition to performing data routing functions, and supporting new, vehicle-wide applications.

It is the place where all this data meets.

Gateways – how many?

There can be several in a vehicle. Multiple domain gateways and a centralized gateway. As cars have more ECUs (electronic control units) better communication is needed between them. Hence, their important role. Also, digitized communication increased data rate. And Ethernet is a game-changer. 

The central gateway connects the domain controllers. Consequently, the domain gateway does the same thing but within a domain. Therefore, these need more and more processing power. Especially with OTA communication.

TCU

A TCU is an ECU, but one that connects to the cloud or the internet. As the demand for this kind of in-car connectivity grows, so does the complexity.

Also, as the market shifts toward more autonomy in driving, vehicles not only connect within but with the outside infrastructure, with other vehicles or even with people.

Classically, gateway processors were 32-bit microcontrollers that supported lower speed interfaces like CAN (Controller Area Network), LIN (Local Interconnect Network) and FlaxRay. These are not becoming obsolete.

In conclusion, these ECUs are evolving and are bringing the market closer to autonomous driving, playing the important role of interconnectivity. Innovation wouldn’t be possible without this technology. Especially since customer demand is shifting towards a digital life.

Body Control Module

A Body Control Module (BCM)  operates all the required vehicle body functions such as windshield wiper control, exterior, and interior light control, central door locking control, and car access.

Additionally a BCM can handle communication between Electronic Control Units (ECUs).

The Body Control Module acts as the brain of a vehicle. 

It centralizes and controls the functions of the vehicle’s body but not controls any of the engine’s functions. Since in modern vehicles interconnectivity is key, the Body Control Module needs to be smaller and smaller. Also, as the automotive market shifts towards safer and more complex vehicles, there is a greater need for more ECUs. Thus, as the number of ECUs increases, the electrical system architecture needs new state-of-the-art solutions.

Hence the software architecture of the BCM needs to get more complex since it is basically the main embedded system that is in charge of controlling the electrical units.

Body Control Module –  a market for the future

Specialists expect this market to grow significantly in the next few years. More specifically, at a CAGR of 2.6% by 7 years from now. This means an estimated market value of 35.7 billion USD, which is a growth of 6,5 billion USD compared to 2019.

“U” Cluj photo exhibition in AROBS’s office

AROBS U Cluj

“U” Cluj photo exhibition in AROBS office

AROBS is continuously supporting the community and sports.

This Tuesday, on 19th February, our offices hosted an anniversary photo exhibition for “U” Cluj.

The most loved football team in Cluj is celebrating 100 years of existence, and in partnership with AROBS wanted to show the fans a glimpse of the team’s history.

The exhibition included old photographs with players, as well as articles about important moments in the University’s evolution.

The surprise was that Bogdan Lobonț, the team’s coach and former player of Romania’s national soccer team, together with a some of the important team players of “U” Cluj visited the AROBS office and met our colleagues. They took pictures, gave autographs and talked about the team’s next football season.

The event was also captured by local press and televisions.

AROBS is sponsoring FC Universitatea Cluj and encourages the people in the community to participate at the team’s games in the new sports season that’s about to start.
